A Card Jumps Out....A Tarot Card Falls

A card jumps out-
1) So your shuffling your deck and your going to do a 3 card smaller reading...
Out falls a card as your shuffling, so where are you going to use it in your lay out?
Ive never used the one that falls out, due to not sure where I'd put it?
To clarify? or as a beginning first card?
What would you do?

2)Where would you put it in a larger reading?

So I asked a few tarot friends & this is what they said :

Often when a card jumps out at me, I place it down above where I'm going to lay out the spread. I usually consider it as a theme for the reading, a guide card or an overall message about what I'm seeking.

Other times, if a card jumps out at me while shuffling, if I'd been planning to do a particular spread, I sometimes scrap the spread and just lay out a few cards intuitively, including the one that jumped out. Sometimes it feels like a message- "You don't need a spread. The cards will tell you what you need to know. Just move freely, trust your instincts."

So for me it depends, but it's usually one of those two things that I end up doing. I almost always incorporate the jumper if one comes out at me.

For a longer spread, for me it depends on the layout. If I'm working with a spread that's kind of circle-shaped I have sometimes put a jumper in the center. Above the spread can also work for most layouts. If I'm doing a longer spread where I shuffle in between laying down each card (I don't usually work with spreads that way, but I do it for the multi-day spreads like the Sacred Days of Yule and Sacred Days of Midsummer spreads), and if a card jumps out while I'm in the process of pulling a card for a particular position, then I'll sometimes place two cards down sharing a single position and read them together.-anonymous

This has very rarely happened for me. And, to be honest, if it lands face-down, I generally put it back in the deck somewhere random and just go on. If it were to fall face-up ... I'm not sure how I'd take it. I can't recall it happening yet. If it did, I'd probably use it as a theme card as well. A card that kind of sets the tone for the reading.-anonymous

So in conclusion, I think I also like the idea of it being, "a card that kind of sets the tone for the reading." If anyone else has any great ideas about this, please let me know what you do with the, "one that jumps out". 😁
